I WANT TO MEDITATE. BUT…,

A prospective student’s lament. This is what I hear time and again from people who want to join my meditation class. They cannot still sit still for even 5 minutes. The moment they close their eyes, a thousand thoughts start screaming in their heads, making even simple breathwork impossible.

THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND – THE KEY TO PSYCHOLOGICAL CALM

People who have been victims of early childhood trauma, whether it be unstable parenting, families undergoing financial stress or infighting among relatives, or sexual or physical abuse of any kind, find it hard to be still inside, unless work is done to release these deeply buried memories in the subconscious. It is impossible for such people to take up a practice like meditation. And even if they do, progress is slow and haphazard.

When deep psychological work is done, it enables us to access our energy bodies and thought bodies, beyond the physical body. This is where we find unhealed emotions and destructive thought patterns.

THE CONSCIOUS MIND – THE LIGHT OF UNDERSTANDING

Once subconscious traumas come up to the surface, they lose their emotional charge simply by expressing them. In therapy, we understand the context, the causes and the  consequences of so many things. We understand why we form destructive belief patterns and why we behave in certain ways that get us the same negative results time and again. Consciously, then we can begin to make changes.

For example, a client came to me with obsessive suicidal thoughts. She wondered if meditation would provide relief. I advised her to do her psychological work first. We did a few sessions and discovered a history of sexual abuse by her own grandfather from the ages of 3 to 8. Her subconscious mind had wiped out the trauma from conscious memory to protect her during the growing years. However, these deeply buried experiences had led her to hate herself. She thought she must be a bad person and therefore such things happened to her. This self – rejection gave rise to the core negative belief: I am unworthy of love. The suicidal thoughts were provoked when she fell in love. She simply could not believe she was worthy of love and felt

it would be better if she killed herself. Deep inner work released this trauma and the suicidal thoughts disappeared. Now she was ready to meditate

THE SUPERCONSCIOUS MINDTHE KEY TO OUR DIVINITY

Once deeply rooted psychological trauma is healed. We are ready to access our true powers. My client could now sit still and do the breathwork perfectly. She connected to her core and gradually saw the superconscious light at her third eye. She experienced a calm and joy she had never thought possible. Along with the relationship, all aspects of her life improved, her talents bloomed, her personality opened up, her work life stabilized. Today, she is well on her way to realizing her full potential. Meditation is the tool she uses to keep her energies clear and flowing. It is a lifelong practice that puts in charge of her own destiny.
